With the unprecedented assault on constitutional rights and the rule of law—and the blatant disregard for long-established norms of political behavior exhibited by the current administration over the past seven months—we feel compelled to act. The emergency is here. We will not sit idly by and watch the Great Enlightenment Experiment that is the United States of America crumble into authoritarianism.
Who are we?
We are a community of freedom-loving individuals who reject the xenophobic, race-baiting culture being advanced by the clown prince and would-be dictator currently occupying the Oval Office.
We affirm that all human beings are created equal and are endowed with certain inalienable rights—life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness—regardless of race, class, or country of origin. We recognize that America, while imperfect, is an evolving pursuit of peace through justice and respect for human dignity.
And so we say:
NO to militarizing our community streets.
NO to the attempted fascist takeover of our institutions of higher learning.
NO to superstition replacing science.
NO to the intimidation of our most respected law firms.
NO to the corruption and self-enrichment of the President of the United States.
The cause of free people seeking a more just, democratic society is too important for silence.
We are NORTH SHORE SAYS NO!—and we will not stand down. Too many have bled and died for these principles: on the battlefields of Saratoga, Antietam, Gettysburg, and Normandy; and on the streets of Tulsa, Philadelphia, Selma, and Ferguson. We resolve that they shall not have suffered in vain.
